I found another flight from Dulles to Rome on Lufthansa that would not require an overnight in Rome. This flight leaves Washington Dulles (IAD) on Oct. 3 at 3:20 pm and arrives in Rome on Oct. 4 at 8:10 am. This would allow time to catch the train to Sinalunga which leaves at 11 am and 1 pm.
The return flight on Oct. 11 leaves Rome (FCO) on Oct. 11 at 7:20 pm and arrives in Washington on Oct. 12 at 3:00 pm. The round trip cost is $1145.
If you have no interest in staying over in Rome, this would be the best bet.
I am open to any options anyone else is considering for this trip Oct. 3 through Oct. 11. I would like to travel with others if possible.
