Hi fellow travelers, I'm booked for the week of September 27- October 4 and am looking for travel companions out of BWI or Dulles on Sept. 26 or 27, returning October 4. An overnight in Rome is not necessary, or even Rome, if Florence is preferred; the prospect of trying to get there at all is absolutely terrifying to me. I could really use the courage in numbers here. Catherine in College Park.

Hi Catherine, I am going the same week as you and flying out of either BWI or Dulles since I also live in Maryland. I would love to coordinate with you--I also am a little intimidated by flying to Rome and finding my way to Montisi. Mary Sue
Dear Mary Sue Thank you so much for writing! I hAven't been abroad for eight years or traveled solo for eighteen so I am nervous. My husband thinks it's hilarious I'm so worried about getting lost. Do you prefer BWI or Dulles? Do you like the sound of the Lufthansa flight mentioned in the blog and then go directly to Montisi, or did you want to try for a cheaper flight, spend money on a hotel, and sight see for a day? Dear Mary Sue, I did some ticket research this morning. It may be that the easiest but most expensive ($1300) flight is on Lufthansa. It flies out of Dulles, changes at Munich, and lands in Rome after 10 hours flying time. We'd probably need to stay at a hotel near the airport on the 4th to catch the flight back on the fifth. Another option, at nearly half the price, is on Iberia, also out of Dulles, thru New York and Madrid, then on to Rome, for 14 hours in the air. Cost was $699. You can check it out on Expedia. Dear Mary Sue, Since I didn't hear back from you, and I didn't have any success getting your e-mail or phone from the y2knit shop, and the tickets I price are rising by the day , I decided to go ahead and book the best fare I could this weekend and just hope you could join me on the way. A colleague of my husbands has recommended a hotel near the train station so I think I'll fly in on the 26th and out on the 5th. I'll be happy to share the information once it's confirmed and hope we can meet up on the road.Alll the best, Catherine
