swirls and garter/setup row
Hi everyone Please check the setup row on the corrected pattern for swirls and garters. I believe it is off by 2 extra stitches. I think the problem is the p2 in the end section. Am I right? Susan in Sonoma
I didn't redo my setup row. I thought it was the same as the original, but that all of the repeats of (p2,k2) are condensed into the middle section. But I still can't get the beginning section to work. I'm going to try something different for the incL: First work the stitch, then do the increase. (I've been trying it the other way around.)
I just attempted to start this for the first time after reading all the input. I do believe the P2in the set up row is incorrect. My question? - are the K5 in the set up row to be worked as K5 continuously throughout the pattern? I've done 3 rows and already it is not matching up correctly. The stitch pattern is by far the easiest yet seems to be difficult in getting started.
Im hoping we can get JIll or Susan to respond about the setup row. I believe the K5 on either end is only for the setup row and then Row 1 begins with the actual pattern for RS and WS rows. So technically the markers should be placed only when we start Row 1. This whole piece seems a series of pieces that don't quite work no matter how you read it. Susan in Sonoma.
So I didn't give up last night - I kept at it until I got it to work. The extra 2 P2 stitches in the setup row are incorrect so take those out.
Once you get past the set up rows, I made the assumption that the edge stitch on each end that Jill mentioned was included in the pattern so I just started knitting according to the instructions.
What I did notice is that the incR did not give me 2 extra stitches - it only gives me one. Also when I did the incL at the beginning, I knitted the next stitch, then continued the instructions and everything then lined up accordingly. I stopped at row 7 and so far it looks correct.
We will respond. We need time to look at this so we can get it correct and reduce the confusion, which we apologize for. Thanks for your patience.
Jill corrected it and I provided input, which may be erroneous. I understand what the confusion is as I tried working this last night but I was too tired to put my mind to it.
Hi: I started my Swirls and Garter last night. I think the set-up row should read K4 at each end, not K5. The numbers come out correctly (otherwise there are 2 more stitches than the pattern says) and the pattern works. I also found it more helpful to not place the markers until the real Row 1.
